Research done by the SOUTH AFRICAN INSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH (SAIMR) (Cleo Protogerou and Alan Flisher: University of Cape Town) has shown that:
1) Bullying is a phenomenon that becomes evident in early adolescense.
2) Bullying happens in groups and are repetitive by nature
3) Bystanders (spectators) are always present and are silent supporters
4) Bullies tend to be a bully irrespective of physical size
5) Bullies are not cured by being isolated or tagged.
6) Bullying has negative health risks on both THE BULLY AND THE VICTIM
7) Bullies can be stopped if children are confident to say "NO"
8) Bullying is best adressed with age specific interventions.
